FAQs

How long has Dr Sue Xiang been working in this field?

Dr Sue Xiang has over 35 years of experience in medical research as a research immunologist and has been integrating Chinese medicine into her practice for the past five years.

What inspired her to get into this profession?

Her inspiration to pursue Chinese medicine comes from a deep passion for holistic healing and a desire to bridge the wisdom of ancient traditions with modern health care.

What are her areas of special interest or expertise?

Dr Xiang notes that Chinese medicine, historically a traditional form of general medicine, has long been used to manage a wide range of health conditions from head to toe. Today, as an alternative approach to health management, it continues to offer valuable strengths, especially in areas where western medicine may have limited options or unwanted side effects.
Her areas of special interest focus on complementary aspects where Chinese medicine can make a meaningful impact:

– Pain management, providing non pharmacological treatment to improve quality of life and reduce reliance on pain medications.

– Autoimmune diseases, where Chinese medicine can help manage complex immune related disorders by modulating the immune system and reducing inflammation.

– Women’s health, supporting women through menstrual health, fertility, pregnancy and menopause. She values the rich and individualised approach Chinese medicine brings to gynaecological conditions, hormonal imbalances and reproductive challenges.

Does she have any particular treatment philosophies or approaches?

Dr Xiang’s treatment philosophy combines the principles of traditional Chinese medicine with modern biomedical science to deliver personalised and holistic health management. She develops tailored treatment plans based on each patient’s symptoms, underlying conditions, constitution and lifestyle, guided by a patient centred approach.

Are there specific techniques, tools or modalities she regularly uses?

She regularly uses acupuncture, including various techniques and anatomical locations, as well as cupping, moxibustion and herbal supplements.

What types of clients or concerns does she most enjoy working with?

Dr Xiang values working with all patients, recognising that every individual and condition deserves care and attention. She particularly enjoys treating pain related conditions because acupuncture can often provide immediate relief, which is deeply rewarding for both patient and practitioner.

She is typically available Saturdays from 8:30am-3:30pm. She is also possibly available on Monday & Thursdays for online consultations, depending on time availability. Booking essential.

Personal Touch

What do you love most about your work?

What I love most about my work is being able to make a tangible difference in people’s lives—especially seeing patients walk in with discomfort or pain and leave with relief. It’s incredibly rewarding to help them feel empowered in their own healing journey.

What’s something unique about how you work or what clients say about you?

My clients often say I listen deeply and make them feel truly heard. I also integrate my scientific background with traditional knowledge, which allows me to offer a more comprehensive and reassuring approach to care.

Any hobbies or passions outside of work?

Outside of work, I love making photo albums or travel videos, writing travel blogs etc. Of course, I also enjoy reading about ancient healing traditions and how they intersect with modern science.

A fun or surprising fact about you?

Before becoming a Chinese medicine practitioner, I spent over three decades working in medical research and published more than 60 research papers! I also enjoyed singing and used to be a member of choir, but I have stopped for many years due to time limitation.

Favourite quote or philosophy you live by?

My recent favourite quote is “Balance is something you create not something you find!”. This reminds me that balance isn’t something that’s out there waiting to be discovered; instead, you have to actively make it through your choices and actions, and maintaining balance also requires continuous attention and flexibility.
