If you have been diagnosed with anaemia or low ferritin you may benefit greatly from an infusion of iron as many people are unable to absorb or utilise oral iron supplementation.
Before receiving an iron infusion you must have a blood test to show a low result. Following this, either your GP or one of our Doctors will provide you with a script to take to the pharmacy in order to pick up your Iron to bring to your appointment. The iron infusion itself takes up to 30 minutes following which you are required to wait for another 30 minutes in order to ensure there is no adverse reactions (which are rare). The effects of an iron infusion can take up to 2 weeks to notice, but this will vary from person to person. A follow-up blood test is recommended 4-6 weeks after your iron infusion to ensure your ferritin levels have returned to within the normal range.
